About Amsterdam's time zone
The Netherlands ran on its own 'Amsterdam Time', UTC+0:20 based on the Amsterdam meridian, until German occupation forced a switch to Central European Time in May 1940. The country never reverted after the war, which is why Amsterdam now shares a time zone with cities more than 800 km to its east.
