About London's time zone
The Statutes (Definition of Time) Act 1880 made Greenwich Mean Time the UK's legal standard, formalising what the railways had already adopted decades earlier to keep timetables consistent. British Summer Time followed in 1916, introduced during the First World War to save fuel, making Britain one of the first countries anywhere to shift its clocks seasonally.
