About Rome's time zone
Italy adopted Central European Time in 1893, aligning with continental Europe rather than the GMT-based zone its longitude alone would suggest. Daylight saving was used on and off through the World Wars for fuel conservation before being reinstated for good in 1966; Italy has followed the EU-wide DST calendar since 1996.
