About Berlin's time zone
Germany was among the first countries in the world to adopt daylight saving time, alongside Austria-Hungary, doing so on 30 April 1916 to conserve coal during the First World War. West Germany reinstated DST in 1980 after a long gap without it, and a unified Germany has followed the EU's coordinated DST schedule since 1996.
