About Tokyo's time zone
Japan adopted a single nationwide time zone, UTC+9, in 1888, based on the meridian running through Akashi. It briefly tried daylight saving time under postwar Allied occupation from 1948 to 1951, dropped it, and has stayed on standard time year-round ever since despite periodic proposals to bring it back.
