About Singapore's time zone
Singapore used UTC+7:30 for decades before switching to UTC+8 in 1982 to align with Malaysia and simplify cross-border trade and travel. Just over a degree north of the equator, its day length varies by only minutes year-round, so daylight saving time has never offered a practical benefit here.
